Errata and Addenda

FGI issues an updated errata sheet for all of its documents as errors are found and corrected. ASHRAE also provides an errata sheet for ANSI/ASHRAE/ASHE Standard 170: Ventilation of Health Care Facilities.

In addition, ASHRAE keeps Standard 170 under continuous maintenance and peridocially releases addenda to update its content. These changes go through the same rigorous review process as the originally published material, and the Health Guidelines Revision Committee intends them to be part of the FGI Guidelines. Addenda that have received final approval are listed below as well as on the ASHRAE website.

The errata sheets and addenda from FGI and ASHRAE can be downloaded from the links below. Please check back periodically to make sure you have the current errata sheets for the editions of the FGI Guidelines and Standard 170 that you are using.

Errata Sheet for ASHRAE 170-2013: Ventilation of Health Care Facilities

The 2013 edition of ANSI/ASHRAE/ASHE 170: Ventilation of Health Care Facilities has been incorporated as Part 4 of the 2014 FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals and Outpatient Facilities. ASHRAE periodically publishes errata sheets with corrections to its standards. Get the most current errata sheet for Standard 170-2013 from ASHRAE.

Addenda to ASHRAE 170-2013

The 2013 edition of ANSI/ASHRAE/ASHE 170 has been incorporated into both 2014 FGI documents.

Added ventilation requirements for “special” examination rooms to reduce risk to staff and visitors from undiagnosed infected individuals with gastrointestinal, respiratory, or skin pathogens. (Consideration of this addendum began before the 2013 edition of ASHRAE 170 was published so carries lettering from the 2008 edition series of addenda.)

Changes resulting from coordination with the 2010 FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities. (Consideration of this addendum began before the 2013 edition of ASHRAE 170 was published so carries lettering from the 2008 edition series of addenda.)

Exception to permit a reduction in the distance between the outdoor air intake and the flue of a gas-fired, packaged rooftop unit

Editorial corrections, including updates to references

Updated terminology for laboratories to align with language in the 2014 FGI Guidelines, including provisions for reducing total air change rates in lab spaces in certain circumstances

Clarification of certain exhaust discharge requirements and updates to make terminology consistent between 170 and the FGI Guidelines for emergency department public waiting areas and nuclear medicine hot labs

Clarification that controls that change the pressure relationship between positive and negative are not permitted in spaces with pressure relationship requirements in Table 7.1 (Design Parameters). Previously, this requirement applied only to airborne infection isolation (AII) rooms.

Clarification of requirements for the primary supply diffuser array for an operating room primary diffuser

Language re: surgery facilities in ASHRAE 170 brought into line with the language used in the 2014 FGI Hospital/Outpatient Guidelines

Clarification of requirements for environmental conditions in the sterile processing department to coordinate with AAMI standards for operation of these spaces

Clarification of requirements for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) rooms

Addition of an alternate form of providing humidification and reorganization of Section 6.6 (Humidifiers) for clarity
