Where to Find Earlier Editions of the Guidelines

From 1987 to 2006, the Guidelines was published by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) with assistance from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The 2006 edition of the Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities is still available for purchase; click here for order information.

Copies of the 2001 and 2006 editions are available for viewing online. The 2001 edition is a searchable PDF file that can be downloaded to your computer. The 2006 file is also searchable, but was created using RealRead® technology and cannot be downloaded or printed.

Prior to 1987, the Guidelines was published by the Department of Health and Human Services (formerly the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare). An earlier title was Minimum Requirements of Construction and Equipment for Medical Facilities.
